And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages.
Acts 2: 1-47
Our Primary Language Vision (Intent)
At St Joseph’s all KS2 pupils will be given an opportunity to learn French during weekly lessons by Madame Birtwistle. They will be taught to express their ideas and thoughts in that language, to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. The learning of a foreign language will also provide opportunities for them to communicate for practical purposes, learn new ways of thinking and read a range of literature from that language.
At St Joseph’s we aim:
To teach pupils to understand and respond to spoken and written foreign language from a variety of authentic sources
To enable pupils to speak with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity, finding ways of communicating what they want to say, including through discussion and asking questions, and continually improving the accuracy of their pronunciation and intonation as they progress through school
To teach pupils how to write at varying length, for different purposes and audiences, using the variety of grammatical structures that they have learnt
To discover and develop an appreciation of a range of writing in the language studied.
